This mammal is a swine and is found in the Southwestern US and Central America. The stiff quills make excellent tailing material for mayflies, and have a unique barring (dark tips, light band, dark band, etc..). Wind a quill around a hook and you end up with a two-tone body!
Approximately 1" X 2" patches with varying length hairs.
Peccary Patch fibers are usually 2.5 to 3.5" in length
Peccary Mane fibers are usually 4.5 to 6" in length
